17 days before we're supposed to head out.
We had several conversations via e-mail and phone with USCIS yesterday. We renewed our fingerprints and send them off to Frankfurt.
USCIS admitted their fault about writing the wrong dates on our immigration approval form. The fingerprints we had done mid November 2008 never made it to their office (or so they say).
We now have 3 different dates on when our fingerprints expired:
November 2010 - written on our immigration Approval (USCIS misprint or Typo, they so diligently called it)
January 15th 2010 - USCIS informed us of that date. This indicates we must have had fingerprints done sometime in September of 2008, which we never did
mid February 2010 - my calculation. When we went to the fingerprint office yesterday I made them show me the date we were there last to get printed, which was mid-November 2008. We had our fingerprints done in mid November of 2008, but USCIS said those fingerprint cards never made it in (ha ha ha).
Our prints were sent of yesterday via Express mail. Frankfurt will then send our prints to DC to have them FBI approved. DC must send them back to Frankfurt and Frankfurt must send them to the Embassy in Addis Abeba/Ethiopia.
Now the funny part - we have 10 working days to get this all accomplished - YEAH RIGHT!!!
Not trying to be pessimistic, but looking at this from a realistic point of view - uhm, nuuuh, it won't happen.
We already have tickets, hotel, rides, babysitters. Tickets and hotel are non-refundable. Mind as well have opened the window and throw out a couple of thousand dollars - but it's OK USCIS, not your fault that you can't calculate and put a typos on our Immigration Approval - and to top it off, lost our mid-November 2008 fingerprints.
Whelp, USCIS told us to call them back Tuesday, that day they should be able to give us a more predictable time line on whether we need to re-schedule our trip or not, and how long it will approximately take to cough up our FBI clearance.

It was not by their sword that they won the land,
nor did their arm bring them victory; it was your right hand, your arm, and the light of your face, for you loved them. ~Psalm 44:3
I know this stinks, but have faith that this will work out. Maybe not in the way you want or had hoped, but it will work out none-the-less.
Keeping you in my thoughts...
This all seems so crazy and frustrating, especially since you have everything all ready to go on your end. Isn't that always the way?
Don't let the frazzles and loose ends get you down. I have a feeling there might still be enough time for things to go as planned. I sure hope it does!
you know how i feel, still praying you.
I do hope it all works out for you. Thinking of you and wishing you the best.
